Bang for Your Buck
Everyone wants more for their dollar, especially in today's economy. Here's a quick look at some of my thoughts on getting the most bang for your buck. (Remember, I'm not thinking necessarily inexpensive, but getting the most from our money.)
Cars:
2009 Hyundai Genesis - $32,250; 375 HP
$86/1hp - The Genesis is Hyundai's first attempt into the luxury automobile market segment. Styling-wise, the car looks very familiar, with exterior cues from other car manufacturers such as Lexus, Infinity, and BMW. Hyundai's Genesis manages to look classy while not offending anyone's taste. When engineering the powertrain on this vehicle, Hyundai took out all the stops and produced a very powerful high-feature V8 that will outperform about every vehicle in it's class. Some of the cars main competitors should be:
2009 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 - $22,740; 263 HP
$86.5/1hp - Don't let this little hatchback fool you, it's a modern front-wheel drive muscle car that can tackle the toughest back-country mountain roads. You'd be very hard-pressed to find more speed for cheaper than this. Not only does it come standard with a screaming turbocharged four cylinder engine, but it has room for 5, and all their stuff. It's competitors are:
2005 Ford GT - $150,000; 550 HP
$272.7/1hp - The one car to make Ferrari shake in their pants was the Ford GT40, beating out the Ferrari's four years in a row from 1966-'69 at the 24 hours of Le Mans. This modern interpretation of the racing classic has all the muscle and attitude of the original, and current technology with a factory warranty. Sitting next to some of its rivals such as the Ferrari F430, the Ford brings more visual shock and awe value. The GT is a 9/8ths scale of the original, bigger in all dimensions, and sporting a mid-mounted 5.4 Liter supercharged V-8 putting out 550 HP to the rear wheels. And yes, it's every bit as fast as it looks, with the top speed of just under 205mph. Compared to the supercars that it competes with, it is a super bargain.
2009 Nissan GT-R - $79,090; 480 HP
$164.8/1hp - "Godzilla." That's the longtime nickname given to this beast from the East. The Nissan GT-R lives up to every bit of its byname. Finally, western shores can get their hands on the 2009 Motor Trend Car of the Year. Nissan made the move to produce this supercar to the American market this year, formerly, you could only purchase them in Japan. The GT-R performs at a level comparable to cars costing $200,000. Yet, it's livable as an everyday driver, and with all-wheel drive, it can handle any type of weather and road combination's. Nissan gave the engine a conservative rating, testing has shown power at the crank of the 3.8 liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine closer to 507 hp. This vehicle underwent severe testing at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany where it proved quicker than the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo, Corvette Z06, and others. Both the Z06 & Viper have a lower $/hp ratio, but the GT-R is quicker on the track, and more livable on the street, with room for four, more luxury amenities, all-wheel drive traction, and better gas mileage (EPA combined 21 mpg). The 2009 Nissan GT-R is a world-beater, and lives up to its goal of, "Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere." Personally, if I could own any car in the world right now; this is it.

- I'm located at 1152 Me. I greatly enjoy presents, preferably of the alcoholic or home furnishing sort. I enjoy long walks on the beach, well...at least I would if I had legs. I am bulimic and tend to throw up near my fence most days. It's a problem I'm working on. BBQ's are a favorite past time of mine. Lastly, I'm very afraid of fire.
